Yes! I Am Officially The World’s Oldest Active Trainer
I never thought I would have a world’s record in anything. But now I have one simply by living a very full life to my current age of 77.
I started this journey when I was 73 when I was at a low point in my life. The truth of the matter is, I could have gone lower. Thankfully, I decided to get my personal training certification in 2016.
Then I went out to look for a job.
Several “big box” gyms would not even talk to me at all which was very discouraging. In a lot of ways I could understand it… Old guy, no experience etc.
I was certain I could do the job but I just needed a chance to prove it.
Fortunately, I got that chance, and four years later I am one of the lead trainers at my gym; I have 10 specialty certifications; and I lead multiple group exercise classes. I have been able to train individuals that have had heart transplants, strokes, severe head trauma, cancer and Parkinson’s disease, among others.
As you might guess, the over-60 age demographic is my strike zone. And I have a powerful message for the Baby Boomers: How do you want to spend the last years of your life? Productively helping the younger generations — or impaired physically and mentally and waiting to die?
If you answered “productively,” then great! Your health and wellbeing are the baseline of your life and affect your ability to be productive, remain independent, and continue doing what you enjoy. IT IS TIME TO TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR HEALTH!
